A-Z of Organising - More

Have you read A - J, if so then you must be reading for K - R

K is for Keys - if you can't identify a key smash the "teeth" or bend it with a hammer. Tag all other keys according to their purpose.

L is for Like with Like - our mantra around here for organising, always store like items together for easy retrieval.

M is for Motivation - as with any project you need to keep motivated, remind yourself of your goals and keep going! You can do it!

N is for Neat - The trick is to remember that Neat does not always equal organised! Everything looks neat but is it really organised?

O is for Office Space - is it clearly defined or the dining table? Create a space no matter how small, think about creative space savers.

P is for Paperwork - the bain of everyone's existence, great book with simplest solution ever will be on the site - watch this space!

is for Quit - not a word we want to hear, don't quit on your organising goals, go back to M for Motivation! You can do it!

R is for Reward - at the end of each organising project, give yourself a reward. Keep projects small and effective, and rewards big!

Final installment in a couple of days!

Quick Pick Organising Tips

When taking clothes to charity make sure they are in good order-rule of thumb-would you ask a friend to pay you $5 for it?

Sort through magazines, tear out or photocopy articles of interest then pass them onto someone else to enjoy.

Save time and money – plan your meals each week or even fortnight, you’ll only buy what you need at the supermarket - not extras.

Want to keep your home clutter free – get the family involved – set a task and even create rewards for kids.

Keep a notepad handy to write your to-do, all those mental notes add to mental clutter.

Top 5 Organising Tips

As you know we live and breathe organisation here at Blair Lifestyle Management. We find this extremely rewarding work and our Clients are always thrilled with the outcomes we are able to achieve.

We would like to inspired everyone to get more organised, so this month we reveal our Top 5 Organising Secrets.

1. Love it or Loose it – Quite simply get rid of all the stuff. Over 60% of our belongings are left unused for over 6 months at a time! This is taking up unnecessary space in our house and our lives. If you love it keep it, if not, loose it.

2. A Place for Everything and Everything In Its Place - You’ve all heard this a 1000 times but it is the only way to go. Most homes are unorganized for the simple reason that they don’t have a place for everything. Creating more space can be achieved in even the smallest of homes.

3. Like-with-Like - A favourite catch-cry of ours. The simple method of storing items in groups of similar types, is key. It ensures items are fast and easy to find and you know where to put them back.

4. Think Logically - Use your own sense of logic when storing items. Whilst glossy magazines make storage look fantastic, it may not follow your sense of logic. What I mean is, one sense of logic might say store basic household tools in the kitchen, another may say the laundry.

5. The Right Tool for the Job – as they say in the trades. The same applies to organizing. Use the right storage container for the job. For great organising tools, visit www.greenappleorganising.com.au

6 Simple Organising Tips

Ever have a “To Do” list so big that you need another list to help you tackle it?

If that sound like you, my guess is you are feeling a bit overwhelmed right now?

Before you know it you will be sitting in the dark because you didn’t pay the electricity bill, the fridge will be bare and your loved ones’ birthdays will have passed you by unacknowledged.

Don’t let this be you; grab a cuppa and a notebook and read on. You will find that keeping your life simple and organized can be easier than you think. These tips will get you started.

1 Manage your Meals - Choose 10 meals you enjoy, be sure to include lots of variety, and rotate them for a few weeks. Make a standard grocery list to prepare those meals and just take the same list each time you visit the supermarket. Better still, do your grocery shopping online and save your grocery list so that each time you need supplies you can submit the same order.

2 Beat the Bills - You can set up automatic bill payments either via your credit card or internet banking. Work out which method suits you and just do it. Once it is done all you need to do is check the bills when they arrive and then file them straight away – no double handling. Saves time and you won’t be sitting in the dark!

3 A Grip on Greetings - Keep a supply of greeting cards on hand – just grab a few whenever you are buying something from a store that sells them – it is easier to find ones you like when you aren’t looking for a specific card. You can even buy greeting cards on line. Once a month over a glass of wine on a Sunday afternoon, write out all cards for the next month, address, and stamp them and put them in your bag ready to post.

4 One Thing at a Time - Rather than worrying about everything you’d like to organise/clean/tidy, work on one area at a time and focus on it for a minimum of 15 minutes; an hour max. Do this a few times a month and these tasks won’t seem so overwhelming and you can feel positive that you have worked on something that has been on your mind.

5 The Perfect Plan - Whilst spontaneity is the spice of life, sometimes a little planning can go a long way. Everyone should keep a calendar/schedule to manage how your precious time is spent. You don’t have to schedule every minute of every day, but you should start each week day with a plan and try to stick to it. Make sure you give yourself at least one day off each weekend to enjoy “spontaneity”.

6 Halt on Handling - Fill the dishwasher as soon as you’ve finished your meal, action your mail as soon as you open it, if possible empty your Inbox at the end of each day, fold clothes as soon as they come off the line – in other words only handle things once – this will save you time and keep things under control.

Happy organising!
